What is already on it is a real month. Oktoberfest at the German American Social Club runs across two weekends, the 16th, 18th, 23rd and 24th. Two trunk or treats fall on the same evening, the 23rd, one at City Hall with a Halloween movie and one at Oasis Elementary South. And the month opens on the 3rd with three things at once: the Fueled by Fire 5k at Tarpon Point, Bargains at Rotary Park and National Night Out at Cultural Park.
October is also when the weather turns. The wet season is ending, hurricane season has a month to run, and the first of the winter residents start arriving. The calendar picks up from here and does not slow down again until May.
The ones worth planning around
- Oktoberfest, Friday 16, Sunday 18, Friday 23 and Saturday 24 October, German American Social Club: Four days across two weekends. The Friday sessions start at 4pm, the weekend ones at noon.
- Fueled by Fire 5k, Saturday 3 October, 7am, Tarpon Point: A 5K starting from Tarpon Point, one of the few races on the calendar that is not at Rotary Park.
- National Night Out, Saturday 3 October, 10am, Cultural Park: The community and law enforcement event, at 528 Cultural Park Boulevard.
- Trunk or Treat & Halloween Movie, Friday 23 October, 5pm, City Hall: The city's own Halloween evening. Oasis Elementary South runs a separate trunk or treat the same evening from 6pm, so the two do not conflict for a family that wants both.
- Cape Bike Night, Saturday 10 October, 5pm, SE 47th Terrace: The South Cape street event the city has run for over a decade. It also appears in February and April.
