February is twenty-four events over thirteen days, and it is where the city puts its biggest things. The 30th Annual Chili Cook-Off takes over Club Square for a weekend, the Burrowing Owl Festival closes the month at Rotary Park, and the WaterWays Science Festival fills Cultural Park on the first Saturday.
Underneath that there is a pattern worth knowing: February is car month. The South Cape Car Show on the 7th, A Night of Model Ts and Timeless Tunes on the 12th, and a Charity Car Show at Mariner High School on the 21st. Three separate events at three separate venues inside three weeks.
The month opens on the water and after dark. A Full Moon Walk and a Full Moon Paddle both run at Four Mile Cove Ecological Preserve on the evening of the 1st, one along the boardwalk and one on the water, both guided.
The ones worth planning around
- 30th Annual Chili Cook-Off & Music Festival, Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 February, Club Square: Two days in the Club Square parking lot in the South Cape. The Sunday opens at 1pm with a flag ceremony by the Mariner High School JROTC. Thirty years running.
- Burrowing Owl Festival, Saturday 28 February, 10am, Rotary Park: A wildlife and environmental expo: vendors, children's crafts, live animals, food and wildlife tours. A $5 donation is suggested for ages 12 and over, and the listing says to come early.
- WaterWays Science Festival, Saturday 7 February, 10am–4pm, Cultural Park: Free, run by the city at 528 Cultural Park Boulevard, built around local, regional and global water concerns. If you are buying on a canal, this is the one that explains the system you are buying into.
- Cape Bike Night, Saturday 14 February, 5pm, SE 47th Terrace: Entertainment, food, vendors and motorcycles in the South Cape. The city has run it for over a decade and says you do not have to be a biker to enjoy it.
- Star Party, Friday 20 February, 7pm, Rotary Park: The Southwest Florida Astronomical Society brings telescopes and answers questions. Free, and the listing says all ages.

Before you go
February has passed. This page is the record of what the city had published for the month. Several of these carry an edition number, so they are clearly annual: the Chili Cook-Off was the 30th and the Culture Fest in April was the 4th.
Two psychic sessions, same day, same venue. Lake Kennedy Center ran an afternoon session at 3pm and an evening one at 7pm on the 13th. They were separate bookings.
Bring five dollars for the owls. The Burrowing Owl Festival suggests a $5 donation for ages 12 and over. The Star Party, the WaterWays festival and the exhibit reception are all free.
