Twenty-five events across eighteen days makes May the most evenly spread month of the Cape Coral year. There is something on most weeks rather than everything landing on three Saturdays, which is the pattern most of the rest of the calendar follows.
Two threads run through it. The first is hurricane preparedness. Gulf Coast Prep ran a free expo at the South Cape Community Center on the 9th, and the city ran its own Hurricane Expo at the German American Social Club on the 30th. Atlantic hurricane season opens on 1 June, which is why both sit where they do.
The second is parks coming back. Three ribbon cuttings in the month, at the Pelican Soccer Complex on the 1st, Jaycee Park on the 8th and Tropicana Park on the 29th, plus a full grand reopening celebration at Jaycee Park on the 9th. - Grand Reopening Celebration at Jaycee Park, Saturday 9 May, 4pm to about 9:30pm: Live music, free food and drink, and a showing of the live action Lilo & Stitch. The ribbon cutting was the day before, 10am on the 8th, at 4215 SE 20th Place.
- Gulf Coast Hurricane Prep, Saturday 9 May, 9am–12pm, South Cape Community Center: A free, family friendly preparedness expo. The listing is explicit that it is aimed at people new to Florida as well as long term residents.
- Free Hurricane Expo, Saturday 30 May, 9am–1pm, German American Social Club: The city's own annual expo, at 2101 SW Pine Island Road. The second of the month's two preparedness events, two days before season opens.
- 45th Annual Memorial Day Remembrance, Monday 25 May, 10am, Coral Ridge Cemetery: At the Field of Honor. Free, and the city frames it as a solemn gathering rather than a festival.
- Two guided bird walks, Monday 4 May at Rotary Park and Monday 11 May at Joe Coviello Park, both 8am: Free and guided, and the listings say beginners are welcome. The Joe Coviello walk mentions binocular rental, and raptors, woodpeckers and songbirds.

The 9th was the busiest day of the month. Five separate events: hurricane prep at 9am, a garden talk and seed swap at the Community Garden at 9am, a nature seminar at Rotary Park at 10am, a paint and sip at 2pm, and the Jaycee Park reopening at 4pm.
Lake Kennedy runs a lot of bingo. Designer Bag Bingo on the 15th, Mid Week Bingo on the 21st and Sunday Bingo on the 31st, plus the Hello Summer Luncheon on the 14th. If you are over 55 and new to the Cape, that building is worth knowing about.
